A planar array of rectangular ring above the reflector for direct broadcasting satellite

The radiation properties of a high gain antenna using planar array of rectangular ring above the reflector for direct broadcasting satellite is presented in this paper. The element of a unidirectional beam antenna using a probe exited rectangular ring above the reflector is first designed, to provide the maximum directivity, by optimizing the spacing between the probe excited rectangular ring and the reflector. Subsequently, the directivity can be further increased by arranging these elements to form linear and planar arrays. The radiation characteristics for various element separations and array geometries are investigated. The results of the analysis are reported. The proposed structure is very useful in the application of a high gain antenna for direct broadcasting satellite.
