Scale model studies of strata movement around mine roadways—I the dependence of roadway closure upon rock strength

Abstract Results are given of a scale model study to determine the dependence of closure in a supported centre gate upon rock strength. Results are also given of a scale model study to assess the influence of supports upon closure in a ribside roadway. It is shown that the stronger the roof or floor measures the less will be the vertical closure, roof lowering, floor lift and sideways closure and that the use of supports reduces all the closures which are observed in a roadway.
