Fundamental Quantities in the Graph Approach to Granular Materials

Abstract Some new quantities are introduced for the macroscopic description of graphical and mechanical characteristics of granular materials. These quantities are defined statistically by averaging the microscopic quantities, such as contact force, relative displacement etc., and the inverse relationships expressing microscopic quantities in terms of macroscopic ones are also discussed. It is seen that the fabric tensor plays the most fundamental role in such analysis.
