Iterative Interpolation Method for Multiband-OFDM Channel Estimation

Multiband orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MB-OFDM) has been proposed for the high-data-rate system to be used in the wireless personal area networks (WPAN) of the future. The MB-OFDM system combines OFDM transmission with frequency hopping. It is an ultra-wideband (UWB) system transmitting OFDM symbols with the bandwidth of 528 MHz. This paper presents a low-complexity channel interpolation method that can be used together with a frequency domain channel estimator. The proposed algorithm achieves a performance increase of several decibels at the high SNR regime when compared to the conventional linear interpolation scheme. The complexity of the channel estimator is increased only slightly when the proposed interpolation method is applied.
