Carbon Footprint of High Speed Rail

This report provides a carbon footprint analysis of four new high speed rail lines: LGV Mediterranee from Valence to Marseille; South Europe Atlantic-Project in France from Tours to Bordeaux; the newly built line from Taipei to Kaohsiung in Taiwan; and Beijing-Tianjin in China. The report compiles an exhaustive and detailed carbon footprint of the construction of these new high speed rail lines, identifies and compares the main emissions sources of the lines in order to highlight the reasons for differences between them, and provides a comparison with other modes of transport and the calculation of the environmental benefit due to the newly built high speed line in Southern France.
