Harmonic optimised 24-pulse voltage source converter for high voltage DC systems

The harmonic reduction, control and design of 24-pulse three-level voltage source converters (VSCs) with fundamental frequency switching for a high-voltage DC transmission system is dealt with here. The level of harmonics of the converter is optimised by selecting a proper dead angle (β) of the three-level VSC. Simulation results are presented for the designed three-level multipulse voltage source converter to demonstrate its improved steady-state and dynamic performance.
