Optimized Hybrid TCP-Friendly Rate Control for Multimedia Streaming

In this research we present a hybrid congestion control algorithm supporting throughput efficiency, TCP friendliness and RTT fairness, in order to provide highly smart multimedia streaming over the Internet. Recent studies on TCP and TFRC are evolving to achieve better throughput efficiency and RTT fairness. Based on the previous researches we compare the performance of VTP,(Video Transport Protocol) Hybrid TCP (Firstly, the concept of Hybrid TCP is extended to the RTP/UDP case, in which two modes namely delay mode and loss mode based on which switching is done according to network observation. Finally Hybrid TFRC Hybrid TCP also performs the same as TCP-Reno when the router buffer is larger or equal to BDP {Bandwidth Delay Product}, because its mode is always in loss-mode. However, when the router buffer is smaller than BDP, its window behavior is different from that of VTP. Based on this analysis we calculate the Throughput, No of packets lost, Delay, Fairness and congestion window size for the three and evaluate its performance metrics.
