Rescheduling techniques to minimize the cutback of project economic value when transportation project is behind schedule

This paper presents a strategy of rearranging the schedules of non-critical activities of a transportation construction project when delay is inevitable. By taking into account the concept of cost of capital during construction planning and control phases, the comparison of the present and the future value among different rescheduling alternatives can be made. An example from an ongoing project in Taiwan is illustrated to depict the effect of the rescheduling strategy. Furthermore, some important considerations in schedule planning phase are addressed before final procedure of the rescheduling is recommended.
