Shielding effectiveness of multi-layered Cu and PET thin films from electromagnetic interference

This paper describes the shielding effectiveness (SE) of a thin-film multilayer of Cu and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from electromagnetic interference. SE was evaluated from the S parameter through electromagnetic field simulations and measurements using a standard test fixture. The SE of a multilayer with three Cu films and two PET films, Cu/PET/Cu/PET/Cu, was 20 dB larger than that of three Cu films, Cu/Cu/Cu, in frequency bands of less than 100 MHz.
