EFFECTS OF LATERAL DEFORMATIONS OF WHEELSET/TRACK ON CREEP FORCES OF WHEEL/RAIL

Effects of structure lateral deformations of wheelset and track on creep forces of wheel and rail were investigated in detail. Finite element method was used to calculate the relations between the lateral elastic deformations of wheelset and track and the corresponding loads. The relations were applied to determine the influence coefficients expressing the relations between the lateral elastic deformations of wheelset and track and the lateral unit loads on the contact areas of wheel/rail. The influence coefficients were used to revise some of the influence coefficients obtained with the formula of Bossinesq and Cerruti in Kalker's theory of three-dimensional elastic bodies in rolling contact with non-Hertzian form. The theory of Kalker and the modified theory were respectively employed to analyze creep forces of wheelset and track. The numerical results obtained show a great influence of structure deformations of wheelset and track on the creep forces. Therefore the amount of the creep forces of wheelset and track obtained with the present theories of rolling contact is larger than that of the creep forces of practice.
