IMPACTS OF LAND USE ON MASS TRANSIT DEVELOPMENT: A COMPARISON OF CANBERRA AND SPRINGFIELD

The differences in land use activity and the development of mass transit facilities in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory and the Springfield, Illinois Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area are compared. The comparison examines the magnitude of mass transit development in the two cities, and evaluates relationships between land use and transit facilities. The comparison is used to illustrate the role of land use strategies regarding the successful development of urban transit.
