The cenozoic saline deposits of the chilean andes between 18°00′ and 27°00′ south latitude

During Cenozoic times, various continental evaporite deposits formed in Northern Chile. The salars have to be considered as dynamo-sedimentary entities, the formation of which was controlled by a combination of geological, morphological, hydrological, and climatical factors. Volcanic activity and leaching of volcanic products are the most important contributors of chemical components of the Cenozoic evaporits in Northern Chile.
