Modal Analysis of Micro-milling Cutter's Different Extended Length Based on ANSYS

Obvious differences may occur in tool life and machined surface quality when micro-milling cutter use different extended lengths in micro milling process. It is mainly known as that the different extended length can lead to distinct vibration's model and frequencies distribution. In order to learn about the rule that how extended length affect the vibration's model and frequencies distribution of the cutter,this paper conducts an experiment which to study the inherent frequency,vibration's model and change rule under various extended lengths. ANSYS is used to establish the micro-cutter 's finite element model,and free meshing is adopted to finish the model meshing. meshing density is set reasonable to ensure the reliability of the model. During this research,four different extended lengths' inherent frequency and modal shape of the first six ranks have been analyzed and the result can make a reference for the choice of cutting speed.
