SiC-hybrid based railway inverter for metro application with 3.3kV low inductance power modules

The goal of this paper is to show the improvements in terms of size, weight and efficiency of a real railway inverter based on the SiC-hydrid Hitachi MBM450FS33F-C module, with the new 100x140mm2 package. The new developed inverter is compared with the original Si-based inverter based on 140x190mm2 modules. Laboratory and field tests in the real traction unit are also presented.
