Embedded systems are driving an information revolution with their pervasion in our everyday lives. The increasingly ubiquitous embedded systems pose a host of technical challenges different from those faced by general-purpose computers because they are more constrained in terms of timing, power, area, memory and other resources. Embedded software optimization becomes a major concern for embedded system design. The objective of ESO 2008 is to provide a forum for scientists, engineers, and researchers to discuss and exchange their new ideas, novel results, work in progress and experience on all aspects of embedded software optimization. The 3rd Embedded Software Optimization (ESO 2008) workshop is a successful one. We have accepted 9 papers from 27 submissions. We would like to thank the general chairs Edwin H.-M. Sha and Alex Orailoglu for nourishing the workshop and guiding its course. We thank the Program Committee members for their excellent job in reviewing the submissions and thus guaranteeing the quality of the workshop under a very tight schedule. We are also indebted to the members of the organizing committee. Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the authors and participants for your contributions to make NSO 2008 a great success.
