The novel design of a microstrip pen drive shaped patch antenna developed through the stages of a rectangular patch design, extended rectangular patch geometry and slotting of extended rectangular patch structure is proposed. The three design stages make use of a FR4 epoxy substrate and utilize coaxial feeding technique. Each of the design stage has been analyzed over HFSS-15 for the major antenna parameters including the reflection coefficient, bandwidth, radiation pattern, gain and VSWR. The proposed design may be used for fixed meteorological satellite applications in the C-band and for aeronautical radio navigation and radio location in the X-band.
