ANN-based technique for fault-location on transmission lines with ATP/EMTP program

This research presents an artificial neural network (ANN)-based scheme for fault-location in double circuit methods of 230 kV transmission line. All the possible fault types are generated using the ATP-EMTP. The line system is presented by a type 1272 MCM, ACSR (A/42/St7) transmission line over 188.6 km in length with 230 kV substations on both ends. In conjunction with MATLAB, wavelet waveforms were input data to ANN-based on back-propagation (BP) neural network. With 1080 training and 540 verification process were generated the fault-locations. The fault locations were varied within each fault type. Testing results proved that the performance of the ANN-based on back-propagation (BP) neural network is satisfactory. (6 pages)
