Robust decoupling strategy for speed control of permanent magnet synchronous generator in wind energy conversion systems

The paper presents a robust control strategy for speed tracking problem of variable speed permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) in wind energy conversion system (WECS). A decoupling input, composed of the machine model nonlinearities, is defined to linearize the PMSG model. Then, the angular speed is controlled, through a stabilizing feedback, to follow a trajectory that allows the WECS to operate with maximum power extraction. The turbine torque is unknown to the controller, and its effect on the system is compensated by estimation. Simulation is carried out to verify the performance of the proposed control system.
