EFFECTIVENESS OF SELECTED EROSION CONTROL MATERIALS UNDER SIMULATED RAIN AND SUNLIGHT

The results of an erosion control testing study are presented in this report. The purpose of the study was to compare the performance of selected erosion control products under simulated rainfall and sunlight conditions in terms of soil loss reduction and vegetation growth. A total of 19 materials--11 mulches and 8 erosion control blankets--were chosen for the test program. Tests were performed in a rainfall simulator facility, in which the variables of soil, slope, and rainfall rate and duration can be controlled. The data derived from the study can be used to select the most appropriate erosion control material for a particular situation.
