Analysis of gas pulsations in multiply connected three-dimensional acoustic cavities with special attention to natural mode or wave cancellation effects

Abstract The general four pole parameters for a system of two continuous three-dimensional cavities connected by n pipes are derived utilizing four pole parameters of each individual cavity in terms of its natural modes, frequencies, and modal damping. As an application example, a two-pipe connection is investigated and resulting natural mode or wave cancellations are discussed. Also, a four-pipe connection is analyzed to illustrate a method of combining the advantages of cancelling both a three-dimensional natural mode and certain plane waves in the feeder pipes.
