An Instructional Model for First Grade Reading Groups.

This report contains a detailed explanation of 22 principles for managing small group instruction. The model is based on several principles which research and experience suggested were assodated with student learning gains. Seventeen first grade teachers agreed to implement the model exactly as contained in the report. These materials served as the "treatment" in the First Grade Reading Group Study. Data collected during this study were analyzea to determine the effectiveness of the 22 principles in producing gains in reading for first grade students.
