DEMAND-RESPONSIVE VEHICLE SCHEDULING: GROUPING TRIPS BY FUZZY SIMILARITY.

This chapter describes a method which groups trips for scheduling demand responsive transport vehicles using fuzzy similarity. It is intended to be used as a data processor before an existing two-stage scheduling method is used. The need for a grouping method is discussed and the proposed method presented. A two-stage scheduling model is then introduced and the grouping method applied. Two schedules are then compared, one using the proposed method and the other without using it. A reduction in computation time and improvements in the quality of service and the frequency of operations is demonstrated. For the covering abstract see IRRD 875321.
