The development of new safety concepts must be based on exact knowledge about the kind, the extent and the location of injuries and about their origin. This can only be reached by in depth accident studies of single cases. Forensic medicine problems may be solved by proving the correlation between the accident forces and the injury pattern. Accident research is only effective with interdisciplinary cooperation. Engineers and physicians must proceed with investigations in the complex field of traffic accidents so as to gain an optimal injury prevention for all road users. (TRRL)
