Amine based CO2 capture plant: Dynamic modeling and simulations

Abstract A dynamic model for simulating an amine based CO2 absorption plant is developed. The model represents all of the major equipment included in a CO2 capture plant with alkanolamines as the solvent system. A non-equilibrium rate is used as the base for representing the heat and mass transfer in the absorption and desorption columns. Steady state results from simulation of a pilot plant case was compared with the experimental data from the literature as a validation of the model. The steady state results used for validation of the model show good agreement with the literature data. Dynamic simulations were performed to analyze the capability of the model to predict the effect on the plant operation caused by the disturbances from the up-stream power plant and the operating conditions of the plant itself.
