Methodological Issues in the Search for a Factor Model: Exploration Through Confirmation

The usefulness of some procedures suggested by Jöreskog for performing exploratory factor analysis is investigated through an in-depth analysis of some of the Holzinger-Swineford test data. In this case the procedures, which use both exploratory and confirmatory techniques, work not unreasonably, although they manage only just, and sometimes not quite, to steer away from misleading results.
