Simplify the WCDMA network planning for hot-spots traffic using geographic load balancing

This paper investigates a new feature of geographic load balancing in WCDMA mobile networks. In the uplink, the other cell to own cell interference ratio is reduced and stabilised by employing geographic load balancing. Thus, the uplink simulations could be simplified by using a constant value for the ratio when performing network planning or optimisations. Some tests are carried out for the simplified approach and the results show that it is quite accurate for both uniformly and non-uniformly distributed traffic. This has shown that the network planning and optimisation for WCDMA networks could be simplified, but still kept accurate in complex traffic conditions, by the use of geographical load balancing.
