Longitudinal development of visual working memory precision in childhood and early adolescence

Highlights • Longitudinal development of visual working memory (VWM) was assessed in children.• Recall precision rather than span or item capacity was measured.• VWM precision increased significantly over two years.• Modelling revealed this was due to decreased variability (noise) in VWM.• Improvement in VWM recall with development occurs even for a single retained item.
