Pulse Width Modulation based sliding mode controller for boost converter

This paper proposes a sliding mode controller for Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) based boost converter. The boost converter is modeled dynamic equations describing the converter are derived and sliding mode controller is designed. The performance of the controller is compared with conventional PID controller. Given a system with large variations of input voltage and load it is necessary to guarantee good performance of the system. Simulation results prove the robustness of converter with sliding mode controller when tested against step load changes and input voltage variations comparable to standard control techniques.
