Is it selling toilets? No, a lifestyle : learning from communities with sanitation success stories in Indonesia

This paper takes a close look at what makes some communities want to change sanitation behavior and specifically what led some Indonesian communities to transform their sanitation demand for household toilets. This study takes a closer look at what catalyzed the demand for household toilets, but also how long did it take to change this behavior and why. The paper also looks at how this benefits the users and how sanitation coverage is linked to hygiene awareness. It also summarizes what kinds of sanitation and hygiene promotion were effective in changing this behavior as well as what is necessary to sustain sanitation services.
