An integrated metric for R&D innovation measurement

Numerous researches have been conducted to develop measurement systems for R&D performance. However, most of them are focused on R&D, knowledge, and/or performance management, and also, each measure is partly and independently designed. In this research report, we present an integrated innovation metric which can measure all the innovation activities for R&D innovation. For this metric, we define the term R&D innovation as product and process innovation, and investigate the impact of innovation. And then, we propose four metric groups namely, R&D management capability, integration, openness, and R&D environment. Also, some key performance indicators are presented along with relevant success factors for each metric group. This metric is easy to use for management as well as consultants not only to lead firm's successive innovation efforts but to generate guidelines for tailored innovation strategies to each firm.
