Physical cyber social computing for human experience

Computing has a critical role in solving some of the grand challenges spanning health and wellbeing, sustainability, and prevention of crime. Traditionally, computing has focused on a single narrow view of the problem to provide solutions ignoring the essential human experience component. The availability of low-cost sensors and mobile devices leading to simultaneous and continuous access to events spanning physical, cyber, and social worlds demands rethinking of the traditional computational approaches. We propose Physical-Cyber-Social (PCS) computing, that takes a human centric and holistic view of computing by analyzing observations, knowledge, and experiences from physical, cyber, and social worlds. We exemplify real-world problems that demands the approach of PCS computing and outline the research challenges in building algorithms and techniques for PCS computing.
