Load frequency control participation of wind farms in power systems

High penetration of wind generation into power system may jeopardize the operation of the system without proper frequency control methodologies. This paper proposed a coordination control strategy enabling wind farms to participate in the load frequency control of the power system. The proposed strategy utilizes the deloading of wind generators to reserve active power to engage in frequency control. It is proved to be stable, and can achieve fast response under operating condition changes while avoiding frequent regulation of wind generators' pitch angles. The simulation studies verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
