A new class of fibre grating based band-pass filters: The asymmetric interferometer

This paper presents the characteristics of band-pass filters based on the Michelson interferometer, as a function of both path-length detuning and Bragg wavelength mismatch. A new method is proposed for creating multi-band-pass filters. It is shown that useful WDM band-pass filters may easily be fabricated with control of bandwidth and extinction, using chirped or unchirped gratings. An example of such a WDM band-pass filter is demonstrated. The special phase-relationship between the band-pass frequencies allows novel functions to be implemented.
