2pσ-2pπ Rotational Transitions in Presence of Other Inelastic Channels

The problem of K-shell vacancy creation by 2pσ-2pπ rotational coupling is considered in the presence of other inelastic channels. The effect of these channels is described through appropriate decay widths of rotationally coupled states. By varying only the decay strength of the 2pσ state in a very limited range, numerical solution of the corresponding coupled equations for several collision systems with Z1 ~ Z2 ≤ 10 (Z being the nuclear charge) shows good agreement with experimental data on the impact-parameter dependence of the K-shell vacancy production probability.
