A new magnetic lattice in the "cdta family". Structure and magnetic properties of the novel homo- and heterometallic chains Cu3[M(cdta)]2(NO3)2.cntdot.15H2O (M = copper, nickel)

The structure of Cu 3 [Ni(cdta)] 2 (NO 3 ) 2 -15H 2 O (1) and Cu 3 [Cu(cdta)] 2 (NO 3 ) 2 -15H 2 O (2) (cdta=trans-cyclohexane-1,2-diamine-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetate) has been determined by X-ray methods. Both isostructural compounds crystallize in the monoclinic space group I2/a with Z=4 in cells of dimensions a=21.419 (4) A, b=7.806 (3) A, c=30.156 (6) A, and β=90.36 (2) o for 1 and R=21.404 (6) A, b=7.742 (2) A, c=30.712 (5) A, and β=90.99 (2) o for 2
