Sensorimotor dominance and the right-ear advantage in mandibular-auditory tracking.

Subjects attempted to match a continually varying computer‐generated tone presented to one ear with another jaw‐generated or right‐hand‐generated tone presented to the other ear. There was a significant right‐ear advantage for the jaw‐generated tone only, replicating and extending an earlier study with the tongue. Results are interpreted as showing a speech‐related sensorimotor laterality which is independent of dichotic right‐ear advantage effects on speech perception in the same subjects.
