A Single-inductor MISO Converter with Unified Decoupled MPPT Algorithm for PV Systems Undergoing Shading Conditions

To overcome power loss due to irradiance mismatch and shading conditions, concept of PV distributed maximum power point tracking (DMPPT) has been developed rather than the centralized PV converter topology. In DMPPT technology, each module, in a PV system, has its separate converter and controller to achieve its MPPT independently of the others, thus maximizing the PV extracted power from the whole system. However, this topology suffers from high component count. In this paper, a software as well as hardware solution is proposed to get use of the DMPPT concept, yet at simpler control and less component number. A unified state flow-based MPPT technique is proposed to achieve MPPT of all PV modules separately, yet with a single controller. Moreover, all PV modules’ individual converters are replaced by a single-inductor multi-input single-output converter, featuring a compact size. Simulations results verified the proposed system capability to eliminate any mismatch power loss, yet at simpler realization and control.
