Do the Modern Chinese Request Strategies Fit into CCSARP?-An Analysis of the Novel Red Poppy

Based on data collected from the novel Red Poppy, the paper attempts to investigate whether CCSARP (Cross-cultural Speech Act Realization Project) would apply to modern Chinese language. It is found that CCSARP is not as universal as the author claimed in that conventionally indirect strategies, according to the data analysis, is not the most frequently nor the most polite. Chinese find direct strategies most proper and efficient way of making a request.
