Similitude of a Model Traction Device: Part I Prediction of the Dynamic Traction Ratio

ABSTRACT THE principles of similitude were used in this investigation to pre-dict the performance of a powered, rigid-wheel, soil system. A prediction analysis was developed to determine the dimensions of a class of soil prop-erties that were pertinent to the system. Four geometrically similar wheels were tested. Conclusive values for the dimensions of pertinent soil properties could not be obtained be-cause of the differences in fundamen-tal behavior between the larger and smaller wheels.
