THE REPRESENTATION OF CURVES AND SURFACES

Abstract : The report contains an expanded text of a contributed paper presented by the authors at the Joint Conference on Mathematical and Computer Aids to Design, Anaheim, California, October 1969. The report is largely concerned with the advantage of using a cardinal spline representation when a number of splines are involved in order to reduce storage requirements. A basis of cardinal splines is introduced which requires only the storage of two cubics to construct the basis elements. This requires that the mesh be uniform, however, and the problem of imposing a uniform mesh is also considered. (Author)
