Stereoscopic display device for manipulator operation guidance

PURPOSE: To improve the visibility of operation guidance and reduce the labor of and shorten the working time of operators by providing a means to generate for display a guidance image in conformance to the parallax of an object to be operated detected from two left and right images picked up by a stereoscopic camera. CONSTITUTION: On the basis of picture signals picked up by two different two-dimensional image pickup elements 10a and 10b that form the stereoscopic image of an object to be operated, a correlation arithmetic circuit 40 computes the shift between both operated-object images that corresponds to the parallax of both the images. From the obtained shift between the left and right operated- object images, a guidance image forming circuit 70 produces guidance images of two screens corresponding to the left and right eyes of the operator. A stereoscopic image signal generating circuit 80 converts the left and right image data out of the circuit 70 into picture signals and changes the two signals alternately in a cycle of 1/60 sec. into one picture signal, which is outputted to a stereoscopic image display 90.
