Effects of Rotating Inlet Distortion on a 5-Stage HP-Compressor Stability

The inlet flow rotating distortion effects in a five-stage HP compressor have been investigated experimentally。For co-rotating distortions, the results exhibited significant loss in stability margin and there were two peaks in surge margin degradation corresponding to two distortion rotating frequencies; For counter rotational distortions, the tests showed minimal loss of stability margin, especially in some cases. The range of stable operations was even enlarged.
