A Frequency Assignment Method for Interference Avoidance in Wireless Sensor Networks

Path interference is an essential problem in wireless sensor networks. It not only increases frequency contention, but also wastes the critical energy resource. This paper,by using the multiple frequencies characteristic of current radio proposes an interference avoidance frequency assignment method IAFA.IAFA divides the area around sink into several sub-regions according to the number of available frequencies. Each sub-region is assigned to a channel so that nodes in a specific sub-region can only use specific frequency for communication, thus to reduce the contention among paths effectively.Furthermore, the corresponding path construction and maintenance strategy based on IAFA is also given.Comprehensive simulations have proved the prominent performance of IAFA.
