Smart cabling: an overview

The Smart Cabling project is a cooperative project of HCS Industrial Automation B.V. and the University of Utrecht. Its aim is to build highly reliable transputer networks, which will be used as message passing system in dynamically changing environments. The theoretical background is provided by research carried out at the University of Utrecht. Using a Smart Cabling network, distributed applications are provided with a fault-tolerant mechanism for communication: as long as paths exist between different components, the application can continue functioning correctly.Section 2 covers some of this work. Section 3 provides some insight in possible application areas of the Smart Cabling concept.
