Construction and modernization of roads is a big challenge in terms of technology, organization, and logistics. Diversity and volatility of construction conditions implicates the key importance of logistics strategy, and the decision on selecting a particular model of logistic services is crucial for the project success. Road works consume enormous quantities of materials such as aggregates and asphalt concrete. Thus, even small improvement of efficiency of material flows and some effort in optimizing logistic decisions are bound to bring considerable economic benefits. The paper summarizes the specific qualities of roadwork logistics, describes case studies of motorway projects’ logistic systems and presents application of operation research techniques to optimizing logistic decisions (selection of suppliers).
