control group. This procedure is in accord with the recommendations of Armitage (1960). Consequently, at the beginning of the present period of study the drug was used only occasionally. In 1961, a more defined and precise diagnostic indication for the drug was suggested, and may have led to the more regular use of phenelzine. A significant increase in the use of this drug again fol· lowed the visit of the international advocate of drug therapy. This did not last, and the drug has apparently now reached its steady level within the diagnostic categories concerned.
