FIRE HAZARD MITIGATION EFFORTS BASIS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PACU JUANDA SURABAYA

Fires can happen anywhere and come up with sudden adverse effects for the company, employees, society and the environment. Juanda International Airport is one place that was no exception from fire hazards that can occur on the runway. This research was aimed to study the mitigating to the danger of fire on the runway of Surabaya Juanda International Airport. This research was an observational descriptive study, by using cross sectional approach. The variables of this research were potential fire hazards, fire prevention policies, procedures, emergency response, fire response team, fire prevention facilities and infrastructure, and level of knowledge of fire prevention workers. The research used a checklist for observation, interviews and self administered questionnaire to the fire-fighting team. Based on this research, there were potential fire hazards on the runway and surveillance of potential danger, there was no policy in fire prevention, emergency response procedures was already exist and was implemented, fire prevention team has been formed called PKP-PK but the number of personnel was not sufficient, facilities and infrastructure in fire prevention was appropriate and in good condition, and the level of knowledge of fire-fighting teams was mostly good. It is recommended to create a policy on occupational safety and health (K3) and the prevention and management of fire, as well as increase the number of the PKP-PK personnel to fit the proper amount.
