An analysis of different planes within the image layer in rotational panoramic radiography.

Three planes within the image layer created in rotational panoramic radiography are defined and discussed; the plane of minimum motion unsharpness, the plane of minimum total unsharpness, and the plane free of distortion. Numerical examples are used to illustrate the differences between the three planes and suggestions made towards the development of a more consistent terminology.
