Performance analysis and optimization of a robust algorithm for voltage transients detection

In the instruments dedicated to the characterization of transient disturbances affecting the power supply, an event detection block activates the storage and processing functions only when necessary. In a previous contribution, the authors described a simple, robust and fast algorithm, which can easily be loaded on a DSP board to implement the above block. In this paper, the algorithm performance is investigated with special attention to its limitations. Optimization rules are provided and the results of experimental tests are reported and discussed.
