Smart active sensing technique using wavelet analysis method on damage detection of composite plate

The main research object of this article is the application of smart active sensing technique on damage detection of smart composite plates. Active monitoring technology using piezoelectric elements has many advantages. The on-line monitoring can be done at any time when it is needed, so energy is saved. The wavelet transform signal processing applied to Lamb wave signals is adopted in our research. A piezoelectric actuator is used to actuate the plate to vibrate, and sensors monitor the responses of the plate. Information about the structural health condition is extracted from the analysis of the responses processed using wavelet analysis method. These results are very helpful in increasing the safety, prolonging the usage life and reducing the maintenance. This study also provides theoretical and experimental basis to the health monitoring of other materials.
